An adventurous Finance Consultant is needed in Kenya to work on a project that provides seasonal credit finance to farmers and farmer groups to enable them buy seeds, agro-chemicals, fertilisers and other products from a limited liability company.
This is an exciting and dynamic role which will allow you to develop a range of new skills and experience in a demanding position whilst also making a positive difference to the local community. This is ideal for a career break or for people looking to gain experience in the Not-for-Profit or International Development sectors. As with many of our assignments, this position comes with the opportunity to become a chartered manager.
Organisation Background
The organisation is a limited liability company incorporated in Kenya with the principal objectives of manufacturing plant health products for both local and export markets; they have recently expanded into environmental management, seeds and input financing. The principal shareholders of the company have extensive knowledge and experience in plant health, Carbon Trading and Financial management having been in the industry for a total of 20 years.
The business has four main subsidiaries:
- An independent testing and advisory services
- A seed company
- A seasonal Credit Scheme
- A trust fund which assist students in their education
Duties and Responsibilities
To date, 50 million KES has been invested into the fund and has provided affordable loans to farmers to enable them to benefit from the organisation's products.
The external financing that has been explored to support the micro finance project has been too high making the loans un-affordable for farmers.
The consultant volunteer will develop and finalise an existing micro finance credit model and enter in and conclude negotiations with new finance partners and donors to support the loan fund.
Skills and Experience Required
- Banking/accounting/business management background
- Experience of the micro finance sector and developing financial models
- Desired: existing relationships with potential Kenyan finance partners and/or international fund managers
- Self motivated with the ability to work independently and also team work
- Professional, flexible, resourceful, adaptable, creative and culturally sensitive
- Media survey and able to meet set targets and deadlines
